AALA Baltimore Chapter covers Baltimore and Washington DC Metro Area. Over the past years,
we have strive conform to the vision and mission of the national body. The vision of AALA which
clearly states that: “We are a movement of black Lutheran people led by the spirit of God with
a variety of unique spiritual gifts, cultural traditions, and callings in fellowship
illuminated by Jesus Christ and continually fueled by our preaching, teaching and healing”
has been our guiding principle and empowerment.
The Baltimore Chapter has embarked on stirring up our various Churches by constant visitations.
We have harnessed our resources and began initiating programs at the Lutheran Campus Ministry
on Morgan State University in Baltimore. Discussions are underway with some of our pastors and
partners in faith to commence the SIMBA program aimed at lifting the spirits of our destitute
and rejected inner city youths.
Blacks in the Diaspora:
Within in the Delaware/Maryland and Washington DC Synods, there is a significant population of
African and Caribbean immigrants. Through the visitations and participation in their programs,
AALA Baltimore Chapter members and the Region 8 Representative has begun to foster awareness
throughout the two synods of the rich contributions of African cultural diversity, dynamism of
African worship experience and evangelistic fervor.
On April 27, 2002, the community of African Lutherans in the Washington DC Synod, the
Delaware/Maryland Synod and the New Jersey Synod extended us an invitation to participate in
a Spiritual Conference at Peace Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Virginia. The conference was
a spiritual empowerment in keeping with the vision of AALA.
Prayer Breakfast:
Annually, our Prayer Breakfast has been a rewarding experience in our outreach program to the
community. During every Prayer Breakfast, ministries lay leaders and individuals from the
various congregations are honored and appreciated for their outstanding and dedicated services
to the church.
Synodical Support:
AALA Baltimore Chapter has provided an ongoing forum with the Office of the Bishop,
Delaware/Maryland Synod to develop, strengthen and support existing and potential black
